These Hiker Hunger Carbon Fiber Trekking Poles are perfect for hiking, backpacking, walking, mountaineering, snowshoeing, climbing, and all adventure travel. They were designed to be the strongest and lightest poles available made with 100% carbon fiber. To adjust your 3-section poles, simply flick the lock open, set the length and flick the lock closed – a quick, tight, and easily accomplished task, even while wearing gloves. The carbon composite creates ultralight poles that reduce vibration and retain strength over a wide temperature range. These poles are fitted with trekking baskets and durable tungsten carbide tips; including tip protectors for protection. Interchangeable tips allow you to switch between tungsten-carbide tips, rubber tips, and rubber feet to account for changing trail surfaces. Each pole can be extended to any length from 24 to 54 inches in length. These are a great set of poles but if we prefer the Montem Ultralight Carbon Fiber Poles as they feel more sturdy and durable.
Materials
The slender Hiker Hunger trekking poles are made of a carbon fiber composite and each pole only weighs 7.6 ounces. Carbon fiber is a natural anti-shock material, so it is useful if you will be hiking in rocky or hard terrain. We are not fans of carbon fiber as they tend to snap/break under tough trekking and they splinter. The handles are made of an ergonomic cork that is comfortable, moisture-wicking and conforms to the shape of your hand. As is common, there’s an adjustable wrist strap and a foam grip area just below the handle for carrying the poles when not in use.
Adjustability & Features
In terms of adjustability and features, the Hiker Hunger trekking poles are much like the Montem trekking poles we have reviewed. The same kind of turn and lock device allows you to open and close the poles between 24 and 54 inches. Each hiking pole is fitted with a metal tip and a rubber cover. You also get a bunch of accessories which is not common with other trekking pole manufacturers. You get two rubber tips, two rubber feet, two mud baskets, two snow baskets and a carry bag with strap! The removable rubber feet are perhaps a bit more robust than others, but in the end, it does the same job.
Performance
As a new entry into the highly competitive trekking poles market, Hiker Hunger is coming in with a passion not seen for quite some time. They want to validate themselves as one of the top tier poles for both serious and sparse hikers. The Hiker Hunger trekking poles are designed for moderate trekking, but owner feedback suggests that some have pushed them through quite difficult terrain and come out the other side still smiling! On rare occasions, the carbide tips and rubber ferrules have been known to fall off, but this is uncommon and is covered by the 12-month warranty. A few found the handles uncomfortable in hot conditions, and the twist locks also receive some criticism (this seems to be a common occurrence, regardless of manufacturer).
Price
At first glance, there’s little to separate the Hiker Hunger trekking poles from the Montem trekking poles
. They share a similar design and have a similar extension range. According to our research, Montem hiking poles are considerably more popular due to most individuals preference of aluminum poles vs carbon fiber poles. That being said, customers are highly satisfied with their Hiker Hunger hiking poles.
